Copter Express has developed a drone controlled in 5G networks

Copter Express is a quadcopter manufacturing company. Over the past eight years, the company has been developing, testing, manufacturing and selling drones. The startup's engineers sought to minimize the participation of the pilot in the flight of the copter. The developers were faced with the task of constructing a light aircraft for the transport of goods weighing from one kilogram to a distance of 15 kilometers. Delivery by drone was tested by Fyodor Ovchinnikov's "Dodo Pizza" pizza chain. In 2014, Copter Express delivered orders from the air for the first time and filmed a video that showed passers-by ordering pizza on the street, and the copter delivered the order within minutes.

The main task of the company is to ensure the safety of the flight. Previously, the company used 4G technology during emergency situations. The quality of the picture and the latency during manual control does not allow achieving the required level of safety so as to control the aircraft out of sight of the pilot. Using 5G reduces latency to 180 milliseconds.

That is why Copter Express became a resident of the first recruitment of the 5G MTS Startup Hub. At this site, the company tested and demonstrated a prototype of autonomous systems for monitoring oil and gas, construction sites in high resolution. In addition, the presence of such complexes implied the possibility of flying to the accident site and to places dangerous to humans.

During the incubation at the 5G Center, the startup learned to work with the built-in 5G module, transmitting a high-resolution video stream, and control the drone in emergency situations. Thanks to the new generation network, it has become possible to meet the safety requirements for the use of copters in the city due to the high image quality.
